NJ’s Frankie Edgar loses UFC 200 match to Jose Aldo

Toms River's Frankie Edgar lost his bout to become the UFC's interim featherweight championship to Jose Aldo in Las Vegas on Saturday night. It was their second career matchup.

It was a close match but Aldo came out on top in the fight that was part of the UFC 200 event at T-Mobile Arena. He waited patiently to get his shots in at "The Answer" with a hard right towards the end of the first round. Aldo cut the Toms River East graduate over his right eye but Edgar pushed harder even as Aldo avoided repeated takedown attempts.

Aldo continued to dominate through the third and fourth rounds and managed to elude Edgar who refused to backdown to the end. The win puts Also on a course for a re-match with Conor McGregor.

Edgar had a lot on the line going into the match that would likeley have increased his profile in the UFC.

"I'm excited, obviously, with all the media hype. This is real big," Edgar told ESPN.com. "I know the implications this has. I know what this weighs. I just want to capitalize on it. NJ Advance Media reported Edgar trained for his bout with Rutgers wrestler and two-time All-American Anthony Ashnault.

Also at the event, Brock Lesnar returned from a 4 1/2-year UFC absence with a unanimous-decision victory over Mark Hunt, and Amanda Nunes took the bantamweight title from Miesha Tate with a first-round stoppage.
