Our first post, which debuted on March 19, 2009, were photos from our "Empty Wallet" campaign. The "Empty Wallet" promotion was an idea that began with Joe Cutter making a joke in the newsroom and culminated with a "funeral for the middle class" involving thousands of NJ residents, sending their empty wallets to Governor Corzine's office on the steps of the Statehouse in Trenton.

Over the course of a few weeks, the promotions team took the Big Yellow Van to different rest stops on the Turnpike and collected empty wallets from upset NJ residents. The residents were tired of NJ 's government plan to once again raise and impose additional taxes. The symbol of the frustration was an empty wallet.

The promotion went viral and led to the use of coffins to deliver all of the collected wallets in hearses for transportation to the governor' office. The promotion garnered the attention of NJ residents, other New Jersey media outlets and most importantly, the eye of many politicians.
