NJ woman wins $7M verdict after losing leg in supermarket crash

HACKENSACK — A Bergen County woman won a $7 million settlement against an elderly driver who ran into her at a Trader's Joe parking lot in 2013.

Ruta "Ruth" Fiorino, 52, of Hillsdale, lost a leg after the car threw her through a window, NJ Advance Media reported. Fiorino was working for the supermarket collecting shopping carts.

The 75-year-old woman driver admitted fault.

Fiorino's attorney, Samuel L. Davis of Davis, Saperstein & Salomon in Teaneck, told NJ Advance Media that his client has undergone 13 surgeries and takes powerful pain medication to fight off "phantom limb pain."
