An 82-year-old Phillipsburg woman celebrated her 61st wedding anniversary just a day before being killed in a Lower Mount Bethel Township crash this weekend.

Ann Rodger was a passenger in a car driven by her 84-year-old husband, Carl, when a pile of rocks tumbled onto a road about 9:25 p.m. Saturday. Carl Rodger swerved to avoid the rocks and into the path of an oncoming pickup, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Ann Rodger died at the scene, and Carl Rodger was taken to St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill where he was in the intensive care unit.

Ann Rodger worked in the cafeteria at Green Street Elementary School for more than 30 years, LehighValleyLive.com reports. The site also reports she was a parishioner of Saint Philip & Saint James Church in Phillipsburg.

It said neighbors described her as the "smiling face" of her community

"Everything she did, it just revolved around her family," her son, Timothy Rodger, told the site.
