Jersey City Woman, Baby Plunge 3 Stories During Assault

Jersey City police say a 20-year-old woman either fell or was pushed out a third-floor window with her baby in her arms during an alleged beating by her ex-boyfriend.

Police Chief Tom Comey says both the mother and child are in critical condition.

After the plunge, the chief says the ex-boyfriend ran down the fire escape and continued beating his girlfriend with a table he found in the yard.

Comey says the motive is not known but the ex-boyfriend was unstable. He remains at large. No names have been released. The chief says the ex-boyfriend was waiting for the woman early Friday morning at her apartment and started beating her when she returned with a female friend. He says the man also stabbed the friend.
