A New Jersey state trooper has been hospitalized after a car crash in northern New Jersey.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Adam Grossman says the accident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike eastern spur in Secaucus.

He says the trooper's car left the roadway and overturned, trapping the trooper inside. Rescuers extricated him and airlifted him to University Hospital in Newark. He is described as having non-life-threatening injuries.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road was shut down to allow the helicopter to land, and some traffic has been diverted during the investigation.
