Twenty-nine-year-old Jerry Pierre was pronounced dead at the scene of Monday night's accident, which occurred just south of the Asbury Park train station. It remains under investigation.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder says the train's engineer saw Pierre walk on to the tracks around 9 p.m. The engineer sounded the train's horn and applied the emergency brakes, but could not stop the train in time.

Roughly 20 people were aboard the North Jersey Coast Line rain at the time, but no injuries were reported.
