NJ Transit gets more federal Sandy funds

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Transit has received another $147 million from the Federal Transit Administration for projects related to Superstorm Sandy.

NJ Transit says some of the funding announced Monday will be used to continue to advance work on the Morris and Essex and North Jersey Coast lines' signal and communications systems. It also plans to repair traction power and distribution systems that support the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system.

The agency also plans to advance resilience projects, including the installation of water-tight doors and barriers at the Meadows Maintenance Complex and the installation of more resilient signal systems at Hoboken Yard.

This marks the third time NJ Transit has received funds from the FTA's Public Transportation Emergency Relief program. It previously got $144 million in May 2013 and $66 million last June.
