RIVERDALE— A 15-year-old was charged after police say he was caught cruising over 100 miles per hour on Route 287 with his intoxicated uncle in the passenger seat.

Officer Mike Reilley said he stopped the Wayne teenager Tuesday night for driving his white Dodge pick-up 103 mph in a 65 mph zone.

The juvenile told Reilley he was driving his diabetic uncle, 66-year-old Ricardo Baez, to the hospital. But Baez refused medical attention when an ambulance was called for.

Police say Baez showed signs of being under the influence, with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and an odor of burnt marijuana. Authorities said Baez admitted to smoking marijuana and emergency responders determined Baez did not require medical attention.

Baez was charged with a being under the influence of a controlled and dangerous substance, while the nephew was charged with driving without a license and speeding. The 15-year-old was released to his parents.
