TRENTON — A city middle school teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a former student who moved in with her when he was kicked out of his family's home.

The Burlington County Prosecutor's office filed charges against 43-year-old Rayna Culver in May including sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The Trentonian newspaper obtained a criminal complaint in the case and reports Culver met the boy when he attended Rivera Middle School in Trenton.

The complaint alleges Culver obtained legal guardianship of the boy in 2016 when he was 15, and the abuse started thereafter. The documents obtained by the newspaper also detail the evidence against her.

Culver's attorney Robin Lord says the allegations are completely fabricated by a "very troubled young man."

The charges will be presented to a grand jury.

Culver is on leave from her job.
