New Jersey’s suicide rate among adults 35 to 64 years old spiked after the Great Recession but still remained among the lowest in the nation.

Data released Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control show 438 suicides among people in that age range in New Jersey in 2010. The rate was up 31 percent from 1999, when 296 people killed themselves.

The rate increase in New Jersey was similar to the national rise of 28 percent over the same time period.

In both years, New Jersey had the second-lowest suicide rate in the nation among adults in that age range. Only New York had a lower suicide rate for the group of adults.
