The fund announced on Monday it will award $3.5 million by the end of October, two years after the storm battered the Jersey shore. The money will go toward housing assistance, unmet needs and mental health support.

Applications will be accepted between Sept. 8 and Sept. 30.

The fund, which is chaired by first lady Mary Pat Christie, has distributed $37.2 million.

In a statement, she says while the fifth grant cycle is the last round of awards, monitors will be checking on the effectiveness and progress of each project to ensure the funds are used for their original purpose.
