A report to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on preventing violence calls for stricter gun control, regulation of video games and more help for the mentally ill.

The report presented Wednesday was from a task force Christie created after the shooting massacre of 20 children and six educators at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school in December.

The Republican governor has said he'd look at tighter gun control but only in conjunction with dealing with violence in the media and mental health.

The task force has recommendations in all three areas, including requiring people to periodically reapply for licenses to own firearms, requiring parental approval for minors who want to buy certain violent video games and launching a campaign to destigmatize mental illness.

The report wants the state to encourage having police officers in schools but not require them.
