The League of American Bicyclists says Jersey scored highest in policies and programs and education and enforcement on bicycle use, but trailed behind other states in infrastructure and funding.

League President Andy Clarke says the state needs to improve the translation of those state policies into more bike-friendly policies on a local level.

"I'd encourage anyone interested in helping make New Jersey even better to get involved with that advocacy effort at the state level, and see if we can change things and make them even better."

May is National Bike Month.

A state D.O.T. spokesman says they're promoting renewed bike-friendly attractions along the shore this summer, and digital bike tour maps to guide cyclists throughout New Jersey.
