A legendary Trenton pizzeria has closed its doors.

De Lorenzo's Tomato Pies, maker of thin-crusted pizza with plump tomatoes, had been an institution in the city's Chambersburg neighborhood for nearly 65 years.

There was no delivery, no credit cards, no bathroom and no printed menus. And the cash register is more than 50 years old.

Sixty-eight-year-old owner Gary Amico says his family did not want to abandon Trenton, and he noted that business was still thriving -- especially in the days leading up to Sunday's closure.

But Amico decided last month that it was time to "take a breather" from the business he and his wife, Eileen, have run for more than 40 years. They took over its operations in 1971 from Eileen's father and original owner "Chick" De Lorenzo
