Porter accepted a scholarship to the University of Michigan during his senior year of high school and immediately made an impact on its track team.

In 2007 Porter was the NCAA Indoor National Champion in the 60-meter hurdle event. He was also named an NCAA All-American during that time as well.

After missing out on the 2008 Olympics, Porter qualified for London with a third place finish in 110-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Trials. His wife, Tracy Porter, will also compete in the Olympics representing Great Britain.

Porter will be competing in his first Olympics for Team U.S.A.
