NJ Officials Move Ahead With Sports Betting Appeal [AUDIO]

Following a federal court judge’s decision last week blocking New Jersey’s plan to allow Atlantic City casinos and state horse-tracks to offer sports betting, state officials are moving forward with an appeal.

“I half expect we’ll get some type of split decision at the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, and then we’re going to wind up in United States Supreme Court, so I don’t expect this whole issue to be resolved for another 2 years,” says New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

The Governor predicts the High Court will ultimately rule in New Jersey’s favor because “this is a fundamental fairness issue. There’s no reason why Nevada should be able to have sports gaming and we shouldn’t.”

He says any state that decides to allow sports gaming should be able to do so, because sports betting is already happening everywhere – only instead of the states controlling the goings-on, criminals do.

“What we’d like to do is bring it out in the open and have the citizens of the state benefit from it by having some portion of that taxed,” argues the Governor.

He also says sports gaming would certainly be legal already across the country, if Harry Reid wasn’t the Majority leader in the United States Senate. But since he’s from Nevada, he’d like to keep the monopoly in Nevada.
