NJ motorcyclist survives 50-foot fall into Passaic River
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Police say a Bergen County man was hospitalized after he was thrown from his motorcycle and fell 50 feet into the Passaic River.
Sgt. Craig Capoano tells NJ.com 29-year-old Jason Montoni was traveling westbound on state Route 3 around 6:50 p.m. Thursday when he was "involved in a motor vehicle crash with a sedan."
The Lodi resident was thrown from his bike and over the guardrail. He landed in a stretch of the river that's about 27 feet deep.
Capoano says Montoni held onto a pillar and was thrown a flotation device by emergency responders but was unable to secure himself due to his injuries.
A Rutherford Fire Department boat was dispatched to rescue Montoni, who was later transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with leg and shoulder injuries.
