A 28-year-old woman died after the car she was driving - with her infant daughter in the back - crashed in Toms River late Wednesday morning.

According to Toms River Police, Leah Eisdorfer, a Toms River resident, was heading southbound on new Hampshire Avenue at about 11:15 a.m. when the crash occurred. Toms River Police Public Information Officer Ralph Stocco said the child was properly secured in the car seat, which is ultimately what saved her life.

In a statement, police said at one point Eisdorfer crossed over the center yellow line "for an unknown reason" and her 2015 Honda veered off the roadway.

"The vehicle went over the curb and into several trees. It came to final rest on its side in a water retention basin," authorities said in a statement.

Emergency crews from Pleasant Plains and Silverton Fire companies responded along with the Silverton First Aid Squad. Police said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rescue workers crawled inside of the overturned vehicle to retrieve the infant.

"The child is being treated at a local hospital and expected to make a full recovery," Stocco said, adding the the child was under the age of 1. The baby's name will not be released.

"Mrs. Eisdorfer  and her family had just moved to Toms River within the last month and the crash occurred nearby her home," Stocco said in a statement to the media Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Lakewood Scoop, the family, which is very active in the Jewish community, previously resided in Lakewood.

A Jewish website Matzav.com, said Wedneday afternoon that Eisdorfer and her family moved to Toms River three weeks ago. According to the website, she leaves behind her husband, R’ Yacov Dovid, and their three children. She is the daughter of "Rabbi and Mrs. Meir Bergman of Brooklyn," the article states.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
