OCEAN TOWNSHIP (Monmouth) — A 36-year-old mother from Asbury Park is facing serious charges after a drunken night out with her young children at Applebee's, police say.

Stella A. Johnson was arrested Monday evening after police say she drove while intoxicated with her three children in the car. They say she also attacked a police officer.

Police say Johnson went to Applebee's on Route 66 and got into a fight with someone inside.

Restaurant employees removed Johnson. After police arrived about 5:35 p.m., she kicked one of the cops, police said.

All three of Johnson's children are under the age of 8. Police said they were turned over to a relative after their mother's arrest on charges of second-degree child endangerment, fourth-degree assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct for offensive language and driving while intoxicated.

New Jersey 101.5 did not know Tuesday whether Johnson had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.

A spokeswoman for Applebee's said Tuesday that the woman was not served any alcohol at the restaurant.

"We applaud our staff for their quick response and decision to call the police, as they all had the children’s safety in mind," Laurie Pepitone said on behalf of the restaurant.

Police did not release an arrest booking photo of Johnson citing Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office policy.
