ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP — A former school district official has been charged in a drunk-driving crash that killed her own son.

Debra Boucher, 62, drove her 2001 Chevrolet off Upper Hibernia Road about 9:41 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Both were hospitalized after being taken to Morristown Medical Center via medical helicopter.

Her son James Boucher, 40, died Wednesday, officials said.

Debra Boucher is the district's former transportation supervisor. She was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon at Morristown Medical Center.

Before her son's death, Boucher was charged with third-degree assault by auto, endangering an incompetent person, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, failure to maintain lanes, failure to wear safety equipment, careless driving and reckless driving.

She may face more serious charges as a result of the death.

A spokesman for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday that the investigation continues.
