READINGTON — A 23-year-old man with prior license suspensions has been indicted on several charges including vehicular homicide in connection with crash that killed two grandparents and injured their son and two grandchildren on Easter weekend.

On Thursday, a grand jury in Hunterdon County returned six separate charges against Frank E. Cabezas of White House Station, stemming from the March 25 crash that killed two Flemington residents and injured three others. The family had been returning home from an Easter egg hunt.

According to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III, Cabezas was driving a Ford Explorer south on Rt. 523 on March 25 when he struck an oncoming Toyota Camry occupied by five family members including Frank Corso, 79, and his wife, Audrey Corso, 75, who were both killed. Their son, Gregory Corso, 43, of Budd Lake, sustained minor injuries and a 5-year-old seated in a rear booster seat was treated at a local hospital and released. In addition, a 10-year-old was transported by medivac helicopter to a hospital for a possible broken femur, the prosecutor said.

At the time of the crash, Cabezas already had previous drug charges on his record including a July 31, 2013 charge of marijuana possession over 50 grams. According to police records obtained by New Jersey 101.5 under the state Open Public Records Act, Cabezas also had five driver’s license suspensions, two of which were issued for underage drinking and driving.

Three weeks before the crash, on March 7, Cabezas was also stopped by Readington police, who charged him with driving while intoxicated.

"This is a terrible tragedy that changed the lives of this family in a split second as they returned home from an Easter egg hunt. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Corso family," Kearns said in a statement.

Cabezas, who was not injured in the crash, was indicted on two counts of second degree vehicular homicide, one count of third degree death by auto, two counts of fourth degree assault by auto and one count of third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, according to the prosecutor. Following the crash, he was arrested and transported to Somerset County Jail on $250,000 bail, authorities said.
