NJ man whose DWI, speeding crash killed woman jailed for 5 years

A northern New Jersey man who was driving drunk when he struck and killed a woman has been sentenced to five years in state prison.

Victor Kwak will have to serve more than four years of the term imposed Friday before he becomes eligible for parole. The 24-year-old Rutherford man had pleaded guilty in April to vehicular homicide charges.

Authorities have said Kwak was speeding when he lost control of his car while driving in East Rutherford in August 2013. His vehicle struck a tree and a lamppost before hitting Sandra Munoz-Molina, a 28-year-old Carlstadt resident who was walking home from work.

Munoz-Molina, the mother of four young sons, suffered severe head injuries and died two days later.

Kwak was initially charged with aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
