NJ man stabbed police officer in the head and face, authorities say
VINELAND — A 26-year-old South valley Avenue man has been charged with attempted murder, assault and weapons charges after allegedly stabbing a police officer in the head and face.
Johnny E. Flores was arrested Wednesday following a fight at his home with two Vineland police officers, The Press of Atlantic City reported. The article states that police responded to the suspect's home at about 1:48 p.m. to perform a well-being check. When they arrived, the officers became involved in a physical altercation with Flores, who was eventually subdued, the article states.
According to a statement from the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office Wednesday, during the scuffle, Flores allegedly stabbed one of the officers in the face and head with a knife. The officer was transported to a local hospital, and is currently listed as being in stable condition. Another officer sustained minor injuries. Authorities say he was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. The nature of his injuries is not known.
Flores was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree aggravated assault on a police officer, third-degree resisting arrest, third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
He was transported to Cumberland County Jail on $5000 bail, according to the prosecutor's office.
