When Patrick Monahan shot himself in the foot literally, he also did so figuratively.

He showed up Thursday at a walk-in medical facility in Green Brook seeking medical attention for a gunshot wound to his right foot, MyCentralJersey reports, citing a statement from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. He'd accidentally shot himself while camping in Piscataway, he said.

Authorities found the gun in his vehicle —a loaded Para 1911 .45 caliber pistol, plus two loaded magazines two ballistic vests and a pair of handcuffs, according to the report. But Monahan didn't have a firearms ID card and doesn't work in law enforcement, it said.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to have weapons and possession of handcuffs, with bail set at $75,000.
