Thirty-year-old Glen Green also must serve three years of supervised release once he's freed under the sentence imposed Wednesday. He had previously pleaded guilty to a complaint charging him with carjacking in the December 2009 confrontation.

Prosecutors say Green approached the woman, an East Orange police officer who had recently ended her relationship with him. He then forcibly abducted the woman as she was putting her 4-year-old son in the car to drive him to school.

Green punched and restrained the woman during the carjacking. He also told her that one of his friends was coming to kill her.
