A motorist charged in a deadly hit-and-run accident in central New Jersey last month has pleaded not guilty to aggravated manslaughter.

Timothy Puskas of New Brunswick entered the plea during a court hearing Wednesday.

Middlesex County prosecutors say the 37-year-old was driving a sport utility vehicle that hit Leonel Hernandez. The 26-year-old New Brunswick man, a married father of two young children, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Puskas, who also was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, remains jailed on $300,000 cash bail.

Prosecutors say Puskas was driving on Georges Road and headed toward North Brunswick when he crossed into the oncoming lane and hit Hernandez on Jan. 25.

Hernandez was headed to his New Brunswick home after leaving Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he worked as a custodian.
