A Newark man was charged with stealing the cab of a tractor-trailer and leading police on a chase through several neighborhoods on Saturday afternoon.

CBS New York reports the owner of the truck spotted his cab after it was stolen on Frelinghuysen Avenue near Newark Airport. The man allegedly refused to pull over and drove onto Route 78 before exiting at Fabyan Place and heading onto Hawthorne Avenue.

“Three cop cars was behind it. As soon as the light changed, he shoot down the street,” a witness told the television station.

The chase ended when the driver, identified by the station as Charles Lee, 37, hit two pedestrians and two cruisers which slowed the cab and allowed a police officer to jump into the cab and end the chase.

Lee was hospitalized with minor injuries and was charged with aggravated assault, theft, resisting arrest and eluding according to CBS New York.
