NJ man kills wife and 10-year-old son before taking own life
BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP — A township man killed his family and then himself, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi.
Ruben Johnson Jr., 50, shot his wife Mishanda, 48, and their 10-year-old son on Monday night around 10:15 p.m. before shooting himself, according to Bernardi. Police went to the home on Sunflower Circle home to do a wellness check at the request of a family member.
Neighbors say they were shocked by the news, recounting how the boy rode his bike on the street and that the couple was friendly.
According to property records, the family lived in the $500,000 home for about a decade, but the address was in foreclosure and listed for a sheriff's sale later this year with a judgment of $833,000, county records show.
The Burlington Township Police Department, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit, and the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit responded to the scene.
Bernardi said an investigation determined that no one else was involved in the shooting. A motive was not given by Bernardi.
