NJ man gave psychic $100K+ to ‘cleanse his soul,’ police say
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — A psychic who claimed she could "cleanse" the soul of an elderly man is now in legal trouble after police say she took almost $150,000 from the man.
According to police the man went to the psychic known as "Kim" in the Smithville section of town and was told he would have to pay $5,000 for the first visit. She then told the man he would need an extensive chakra program, which she said would cost $10,500 per session.
"Kim advised him that he had eight evil spirits that only she could eradicate in 14 steps," police said.
During her interactions with the man police said she used "information she learned about the gentleman's unpleasant childhood" in her claims that she could help him. Police say she also told the man if he didn't do the 14 step process the man would experience "further torment in this life and the afterlife."
After agreeing to the program police say Kim told the man to transfer the money to her son's car business, Frank's Classic Carz in Ventnor. The woman also said not to tell anyone about the agreement or the man would suffer more evil spirits.
Police say the woman told the man to tell bank tellers he was buying a car from the son's business. During interviews with police the mother and son told police the same explanation for the large transaction, but that "these statements were unsubstantiated.
As a result, 49-year-old Sally "Kim" Wando of Galloway, and Frank T. Marco, 24, of Ventnor were arrested and charged with second-degree Theft by Deception and third-degree conspiracy to commit theft. They were released pending future court dates.
