NJ Man Convicted of Killing Estranged Wife

A New Jersey man has been convicted of stabbing his estranged wife to death in her apartment more than two years ago.

A jury in Essex County on Friday found Bloomfield resident Khalid Khan guilty of murdering Shazmina Khan in July 2011.

Prosecutors presented evidence during the three-week trial to show that Khan spent the day of the murder with the couple's 8-year-old daughter, then put her to bed at the Montclair apartment she had been sharing with her mother after the couple split up.

The girl awoke in the middle of the night to find the bathroom door locked. A neighbor eventually pried the door open and found Shazmina Khan's body in the bathtub.

Khalid Khan faces 30 years to life when he is sentenced on Dec. 16.
