Authorities have arrested a Paramus man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of two juvenile males.

Fernando Salinas, 48, was arrested on April 29 and charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Wednesday.

The arrest came after a joint investigation by the Bergen County prosecutor's Special Victims Unit and the Paramus Police Department that revealed Salinas "engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with two juvenile victims," authorities said. One victim was described as a 5-year-old male and the other a 15-year-old male who said the alleged inappropriate sexual activity took place when he was about 6 or 7 years old, the prosecutor said.

"The 5-year-old victim disclosed the inappropriate sexual activity to his father, who contacted the Paramus Police Department, who then notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office," the prosecutor said in a statement Wednesday.

Salinas was arrested based on details gathered by authorities after they interviewed the two children, according to the prosecutor.

Police say Salinas is being held in Bergen County jail in lieu of $200,000 bail with no 10 percent option. In addition, his bail restrictions indicate that he is prohibited from having any contact with the victims. He was also ordered to surrender his passport and is not permitted to apply for another passport, the prosecutor said.
