A Jersey City man bit on Sunday by a pit bull has made improvement in his recovery, authorities say.

Jersey City Medical Center spokesman Mark Rabson said Antonio Garcia, 36, was in stable condition as of Monday afternoon. Rabson said Garcia had been in guarded condition earlier in the day following treatment for a dog bite from one of his pit bulls, which he told police got loose from its cage.

Police said they found Garcia covered in blood and moaning when they got to his apartment. A friend, Daniel Gomez, was treated for a superficial pit bull bite to his leg before police arrived.

A second pit bull that was caged the entire time was also removed from the apartment.
