A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police department says Friday Michael Howard was arrested Thursday aboard a Port Authority Trans-Hudson railroad train at the 33rd Street station in Manhattan.

Spokesman Joe Pentangelo says officers believe the 20-year-old Newark man took the defibrillator from the 23rd Street station. He's been charged with possession of stolen property.

Pentangelo says Howard was arrested last month for stealing the medical device from the PATH station in Newark, N.J.

An attorney for Howard couldn't immediately be reached.

Defibrillators use electric shocks to jolt the heart back to normal after patients collapse from cardiac arrest.
