Gloucester County prosecutors say 50-year-old Thomas Tansey of Logan Township pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree aggravated assault.

The attack with the board broke several of his wife's facial bones and left her in the hospital for five days.

At the plea hearing prosecutors say Tansey at first said he had not struck his wife "purposely." But after repeated questioning by his lawyer and a prosecutor, they say he acknowledged hitting his wife "maybe five times" on her head.

Authorities say his wife divorced him and now lives out of state.

Prosecutors will seek a 10-year sentence when he returns to court Aug. 3.
