Passaic County authorities say a man used an off-duty police officer's gun to fatally shoot himself during a July 4 party at a Totowa home.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and Totowa Police Chief Robert Coyle released a statement Tuesday identifying the victim as Xavier Cuevas-Soto, 22, of Clifton. Authorities say the man committed suicide at the home of an off-duty Paterson police officer after the officer had removed his off-duty firearm.

The police officer's name has not been released. The Prosecutor's Office said police did not release any additional information regarding the incident.
