The meetings were to be held in Atlantic City next week.

It's the second big New Jersey-centric conference to be scrapped because of the storm. The New Jersey Education Association also canceled its convention scheduled for Atlantic City this week.

While the conventions are important to the city's economy, Gov. Chris Christie said it was a good idea to cancel the events. He says state and local officials will be too busy to attend, and notes that the Atlantic City Convention Center is still being used as a shelter for people displaced by the storm.
