TRENTON — Could Democratic political consultant James Devine's comments trigger others to follow through on his words?

Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, R-Union,  told New Jersey 101.5's Bill Spadea that it's a concern.

"There are people who are on the edge. Fragile people. People who need very little to motivate them to violence...there are people who will lose it in a minute based upon a person's tweet," Bramnick said Thursday.

Devine has tweeted and posted on his Facebook page "#HuntRepublicans" since last Wednesday's shooting of U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise during a baseball practice in Virginia.

His latest use came on Wednesday, the night after Republican Karen Handel won a special election in Georgia for a House seat.

"I would suspect Democrats would not want to associate with him because the next day someone's going to say hunt Democrats," Bramnick said.

Bramnick, who also lives in Union County, said most people in the public spotlight have had threats, including himself, that have gone nowhere.

"It's the quiet person, the person who is all of a sudden is motivated by something that we don't understand as rational people that causes, in my judgement, the violence. We have to be careful we're not motivating the fringe."

The shooting has also left many of his fellow legislators worried about security outside the Statehouse. Bramnick says it's not just the president who has to worry about assassination attempts.

Fox News' Tucker Carlson called Devine an "unbalanced person" during an interview on Monday.

Devine could eventually face investigation from the FBI or the Secret Service, according to former Morris County Prosecutor Bob Bianchi.
