HILLSBOROUGH — A singer/songwriter who performs at synagogues, community centers and other venues has been charged with receiving and sharing child pornography.

Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick announced that Eric S. Komar, 46, of Hillsborough, was arrested Tuesday.

According to Fitzpatrick, Komar used a peer-to-peer file sharing program in April to share the images, including some of "prepubescent children being sexually abused." A search warrant at Komar's house on Tuesday revealed a thumb drive, external hard drive, laptop and desktop computer. The file sharing program was found on the desktop, according to court documents, and a review of the devices found pictures and videos of child pornography.

Komar, according to court documents, admitted to law enforcement officers that he has used the file sharing program, stores images in hidden files, and "has a large library of child pornography." Komar estimated he had "thousands of images and videos," and that he "masturbates to images of child pornography on a daily basis."

If convicted of the charge, Komar could face a prison sentence of between five and 20 years, and a fine of $250,000.

Fitzpatrick encouraged anyone with information about the case to contact the FBI office in Newark at 973-792-3000.
