NJ Jail Official Indicted For Allegedly Having Sex with Inmate

The suspended assistant director of the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center has been indicted on numerous charges related to alleged sexual assault of a female inmate 13 years ago.

The 13-count indictment handed up Tuesday by a Middlesex County grand jury accuses Derick Stevens of official misconduct, sexual assault, witness and evidence tampering and hindering apprehension.

Prosecutors say the 40-year-old Stevens was working as a guard at the Middlesex County youth detention center when he and the inmate allegedly had sex in 2000. He was charged with sexual assault since he had a supervisory role over the woman, who was 21 years old at the time.

In a separate matter, another county grand jury recently indicted Stevens on charges he made and carried false police identification.
