Motorists are seeing sharply higher prices at the pumps in New Jersey.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of regular gasoline in New Jersey on Friday was $3.81, up 6 cents from last week. That's also much higher than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.33.

Meanwhile, the national average price stayed stable, remaining at $3.79 for the second straight week. That's still much higher than the national average from a year ago, which was $3.40.

Analysts say the higher prices in New Jersey are mostly due to "extremely tight fuel supplies" in the northeast. But pump prices are expected to start falling in the coming weeks.
