A New Jersey street gang member who conspired to kill a rival gang member two years ago has been sentenced to nearly nine years in federal prison.

Samad McCallum of Elizabeth also must serve three years of supervised release once he's freed from prison. He had pleaded guilty last July to a complaint charging him with conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering and weapons offenses.

The 24-year-old McCallum, who was sentenced Monday, admitted conspiring with other members of the Fruit Town and Brick City Brims set of the Bloods to kill a rival gang member in Jersey City in April 2009.

They thought the man they targeted had ordered the murders of two Fruit Town and Brick City Brims members in Jersey City.
