CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Firefighters in Somerset County are mourning the loss of a 33-year-old lieutenant and rising department leader who was killed Wednesday in a motorcycle crash.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that the Country Hills Fire Department announces the passing of Lieutenant Kevin McMorrow yesterday evening in a tragic off duty accident," the Country Hills Fire Department of Bridgewater announced Thursday on Facebook.

McMorrow, a resident of South Bound Brook, was killed when his motorcycle collided with an SUV driven by a 28-year-old woman at about 9 p.m. in the area of Main Street in Lebanon and Rt. 22 east in Clinton Township, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III said.

The driver of the SUV has not been charged with any crime, but an investigation into the crash continues, Kearns said. Other details of the crash were not immediately clear Friday morning.

Kearns said the tragic accident is an important reminder for motorists to pay attention to the road and be mindful of motorcycles.

"It is important for every motorist on the roadway  to be aware that motorcycles share the road with us, especially during the summer months," Kearns said Friday. "Because of a motorcycles narrow profile it can easily be hidden in a cars blind side or masked by objects."

According to the fire department, McMorrow joined the Country Hills Fire Department in  December of 2003 and climbed the ranks to 2nd assistant chief. He also served for as a trustee on the department’s executive board fr many years, fire officials said.

"Kevin was a devoted father, friend, son, brother, and had a love for cars," firefighters said on Facebook.

Anyone with information about the crash should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-321-0010 or by going to www.crimestoppershunterdon.com.

According to the fire department, a viewing for McMorrow will take place Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bruce Van Arsdale Funeral Home in Somerville. A funeral will take place Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St John's Episcopal Church in Somerville with burial to follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Bridgewater.
