Fire departments in Paterson, Westfield and Ocean Gate are set to receive the money for flood rescue emergency equpiment, operations and safety.
"With firefighters ready to roll at the sound of the alarm , we must be certain that they are sufficiently trained and equipped to handle emergencies safely and effectively," said U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).
U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) said in addition, "These funds will allow local fire departments to purchase the most modern safety equipment available and boost their capacity to respond in case of a fire."
The grant is distributed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.
