The New Jersey Department of Transportation has been preparing for the Friday-into-Saturday winter event since yesterday.

Spokesman Joe Dee said the department is "fully mobilized statewide," even though the forecast calls for most of the snow in north Jersey.

"We're ready in case there's a change in the forecast," Dee said.

According to Dee, plows have been prepositioned along the state's roadways. The Department has 2,000 pieces of equipment. Other state agencies bring the total number of trucks to approximately 3,000.

DOT sent out the call for snowplow operators late last year. More than 100 responses were received from driver's with commercial licenses, and all of the available slots were filled.

Dee added, "If you're driving tonight or early tomorrow morning, be very careful. If you can avoid any unnecessary trips tonight, do so."
