PATERSON - A Paterson woman died after being shot in the head early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Authorities say 57-year-old Marilyn Thompson was found at the corner of Auburn Street and Hamilton Avenue at about 4 a.m. after police responded to a call for shots fired in the area.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said in a statement that when officers arrived, they discovered that Thompson suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to Saint Joseph's Medical Center. She was pronounced deceased at 3 p.m., police said.

Authorities did not provide any additional information regarding the homicide, but said the incident remains under investigation. They are asking anyone with information to contact the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-370-PCPO or email TIPS@passaiccountynj.org.
