Oliver told attendees at the party's annual Jefferson Jackson dinner the November election is too important for Democrats to sit on their hands.

Democratic Sen. Barbara Buono is a significant underdog against popular Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

Oliver said Thursday Democrats have a responsibility to try to unseat a governor who has his eyes on a presidential run in 2016.

Party Chairman John Wisniewski says the party is fortunate to have a gubernatorial candidate who is as "tenacious" and "hardworking" as Buono.
