NJ Closing 2 Charter Schools, Renewing 10

New Jersey officials have told two charter schools that their charters are being revoked and they will be closed at the end of the academic year.

Another 10 schools are having their charters renewed for five years, though four of them are on probation and must create plans to address deficiencies.

The state Education Department announced Wednesday it's closing DUE Charter School in Camden and the Renaissance Regional Leadership Charter School in Pemberton for poor performance.

The schools on probation are the Barack Obama Green Charter High School and Union County TEAM, both in Plainfield; Environment Community Opportunity in Camden and Galloway Community.

The state has approved the consolidation of Newark's Marion P. Thomas Charter School, which now serves students through eighth grade, and the Visions Academy Charter High School.
