NJ Casino Tries to Stay Fresh with Tenure Limit

The newest casino in Atlantic City, N.J., is making clear up front that some of its jobs aren't for life.

Revel, which opens in May, is telling applicants who want to be dealers and cocktail servers that they have to re-apply for their jobs and compete against newcomers after as little as four years.

The casino says it's essential in the cutthroat casino business to ensure it has the best employees who put the best face on its business.

But the city's main casino workers union is apoplectic. It calls the tactic age discrimination, since the new applicants will likely be younger. The casino denies that.

The union also says Revel is treating its workers like baseball players who can be cut at any time but paying them like hot dog vendors.
