Health officials say that a bat found in a southern New Jersey house has tested positive for rabies. Residents have been advised to seek medical care.

KYW-TV reports that a family in Berlin Township killed the bat at their house on Saturday.

Camden County health authorities sent the animal to a state lab in Trenton. Officials learned Thursday that the bat had rabies.

Family members who were exposed to the bat have been advised to seek preventative treatment for the illness. Their dog and three cats have been seen by a veterinarian.
